Battle of Bladensburg 210th Anniversary Commemorated in Prince George's County

 

On August 24, 2024, the Town of Bladensburg marked the 210th anniversary of the Battle of Bladensburg, a crucial event in American history. This War of 1812 battle had a significant impact on the nation’s capital as British forces marched on Washington, D.C. The Battle of Bladensburg ultimately led to the burning of the White House and other important government buildings. Additionally, 10 years ago on this same day, the Town of Bladensburg dedicated the Battle of Bladensburg memorial to honor those who bravely fought in this pivotal conflict as part of Maryland's War of 1812 Bicenntenial commemoration efforts and events. The Battle of Bladensburg is a major historical theme and interpretive focus of the Prince George's State Heritage Area.
