Heritage Areas Raise Awareness of Cultural Tourism During Annual Maryland Tourism Day
Cultural tourism was well-represented at Maryland Tourism Day on Friday, February 14, 2025 in Annapolis with attendance of five State Heritage Area directors. Can you find them all in this Maryland Tourism Council group photo!?
More from the Maryland Tourism Council:
This marked our third year at Rams Head On Stage, and once again, we had a sold-out crowd of nearly 250 tourism professionals. They gathered in Annapolis to visit the offices of General Assembly members and make the case for tourism's vital role in Maryland's economy. They asked lawmakers not to cut tourism funding in the 2024 budget.Every Maryland General Assembly member received a gift bag filled with goodies from our sponsors, tourism statistics, and a fun pair of Maryland Flag sunglasses, along with a card detailing key industry events over the next decade. We hope they'll be wearing those shades often — Maryland tourism’s future is looking bright!
The event featured remarks from several important figures. Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks was honored as the Tourism Person of the Year 2024, while Delegate Wayne Hartman received the Tourism Advocate of the Year award once again. We also heard from Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley, who gave an exciting presentation on the redevelopment of Annapolis's Waterfront Park.
We had inspiring words from our lunch sponsor, Lucille Walker, Executive Director of the Southern Maryland National Heritage Area, and our breakfast sponsor, Mac Campbell, Executive Director of the Baltimore Convention Center.
It was a wonderful day of connection, celebration, and advocacy for Maryland's thriving tourism industry.
