Good News: Beach to Bay Heritage Area awarded Excellence in Public Programming and Exhibits by Maryland Historical Trust
On May 1st, 2025 at New Bethel Church in Berlin, the Beach to Bay Heritage Area was awarded a preservation award from the Maryland Historical Trust for Excellence in Public Programming and Exhibits for our African American Heritage Project. The African American Heritage Project featured several components including 3 murals painted by local artists, 14 interpretive signs installed at significant historical and cultural sites, five radio segments aired with the help of Delmarva Public Media, StoryWay articles, and more. These elements together helped highlight local activists, heroes, places of significance to the African American community, and key moments in our history that remained obscure even to those calling the Shore their home. With the help of our communities, we were able to not only help preserve, but bring attention to these people, places, and their shared histories.
